Frequently Asked Questions
Change Management
Q. I have a question for the Change and Move Champions. How do I submit it?
- You can email it to the group here (ChangeChampionsPhilly@nbcuni.com), or email or speak to your individual champion.
Q. What is a Change Champion?
- A Change Champion is a member of your team who will act as a liaison to the Change Management team. The Change Champion will provide information regarding the move and share questions and feedback. Now that we are close to our move, the Change Champions are becoming Move Champions, to help you through the transition.
Q. How is Senior Leadership preparing for this change?
- The priority of our two stations is to keep the NBC10 / Telemundo 62 team strong, united and prepared for the change on the horizon. Senior Leadership is working with change management consultants to consider how this move will affect the day to day activities of each and every employee.
The Move
Q. When will we be moving into the new building?
- The actual move crates and materials will be delivered Sept. 21 and Sept. 22. Non-news employees are scheduled to work their first day at CTC on Sept. 24 and News employees are scheduled to work their first day on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.
Q. Who are considered Non-news and News employees?
- Non-news employees work in the sales, marketing, finance, HR, community and programming departments. News employees work in the news, operations, engineering, IT, and creative services departments.
Q. How long will the move process take?
- Each move is scheduled to take place over the course of a weekend. Non-news employees will be asked to leave their current workspaces on Friday, Sept. 21 by 6 p.m. with their crates packed. Most news employees will not need crates, but those that do will have to pack their crates by on Saturday, Sept. 22 by 8 a.m.
When employees arrive to the Comcast Technology Center at their scheduled time on Monday, Sept. 24 (for non-news employees) or Sunday, Sept. 30 and Monday, Oct. 1 (for news employees) their items will be located at their new workstation.
Q. Where will I sit within the Comcast Technology Center?
- NBC10 / Telemundo 62 will occupy floors 12 – 14. Details on where you will be sitting will be provided to you by your Department Leaders. Please schedule time to meet with your leader to get more information.
Q. How many and what size crates will I receive to support my move?
- Each employee moving into the new building will receive one plastic crate for their personal belongings. There is a sample crate in the HR Talent Lab. Employees will also receive the appropriate number of packing labels, which will need to be filled out and placed on the items to be moved.
Q. When will I receive my crates to begin packing?
- Crates will be delivered approximately one week prior to an employee’s scheduled move date.
Q. I did not receive a crate and am scheduled to move. What should I do?
- Employees scheduled to move will receive their crates roughly one week prior to their move. If you are within that window of time and did not receive your crate, please reach out to your Change Champions or HR.
Q. What should I do with all of my stuff that I do not plan to move with me?
- You will want to pack all of the contents of your office or workstation with the exception of your laptop (if applicable) and phone. Items that you plan to move to your new workspace should be packed into the provided crate. Items that you do not wish to move to the Comcast Technology Center, or items that do not fit into the provided crate, should be taken home or properly disposed of.
Q. Will larger trash receptacles be made available prior to the move?
- Yes, large trash receptacles will be delivered to the floor approximately one week prior to an employee’s scheduled move date.
Q. What does NOT move?
- There are a number of items that will not move to the Comcast Technology Center. These include: furniture, desk top computers, monitors, appliances, phones, televisions, whiteboards/bulletin boards, chair mats, trash cans, and company-owned artwork. Personal items or valuables, such as plants, desk accessories, collectibles, personal pictures, etc. will also not be part of the move unless they can fit in the provided crate.
When you are packing your office, you’ll want to keep in mind NBCU Records Management Policy. If you have file contents that need to be archived, you should follow the normal records retention procedures.
Q. What is our document retention plan?
- You can access NBCU Record Management policy here. If you have file contents that need to be archived, you should follow the normal “records retention” procedures. If you need assistance with determining what documents you should retain, please refer to your Record Retention Coordinator.
Q. Do employees need to take inventory of everything they are moving?
- Since employees will be packing the contents of their current workspace and since all crates will be tagged, there is no formal need to take inventory of items.
Q. Will we receive new monitors, or will our current monitor be moved?
- All employees will receive new monitors.
Q. Who do I contact if I have any questions, problems, etc. regarding packing my work space?
- If you have questions after receiving your packing instructions or during your move, please speak with a Change Champion or the HR team. Your Change Champion has direct access to those managing the move.
Q. What do I have to do during the move?
- The company has hired move consultants to help us through the move process. As you heard at our August station meeting, employees should not have to spend more than about one hour on the move! Your responsibility is to purge your files and clean your space, take personal items home and then pack and label a crate with what will be moved to the new building. The crate will be waiting for you in your new workspace.
Q. Do I move my computer?
- If you have a desktop computer, it will not move to the new building. You will get new technology that is already connected to our network, so all network data will be available to you on your first day. If you have saved data on your C drive (which is never recommended) you should consult with IT now to move that data to a network drive.
Q. What should I take to the new building?
- Every department is different, but in general, you should take as little as possible. News employees should remember that the newsroom is a live set, so there should be no clutter on or around desks. Other employees should discuss with their department what their policy will be. However, we want to maintain a clean and clutter free space throughout the three floors. For your workstation, you should take only what fits into your moving crate.
Q. What if I maintain files or equipment that is larger than my crate?
- You should consult with your Move Champion and department head to develop a plan.

Q. How are they to getting these items and other items to the new building?
- We have hired move consultants to assist our team on moving station items to CTC.
Q. How do you go about reserving time in the meeting areas? Is that the same as how we go about reserving conference rooms here?

It works seamlessly with our Microsoft Outlook calendars. As part of your employee journey to CTC, we will schedule training prior to move in date.

Building Amenities

- There are many restaurants and food places in the area. Please explore the area for your food options. If you order food, you will need to meet the delivery person in the lobby.
Q. Will there be a sign up to use the phone rooms? A lot of the account managers will be using them to discuss business and not to disturb people around them. We want to make sure there is a sign up to use the rooms so there aren’t any issues.

Q. Are there nap/meditation rooms?
- There is a quiet room. The quiet room is intended to fulfill employees’ physical, spiritual and religious needs.
Commute
Q. I have lots of commuting questions. Where can I get access to local train maps? Is it worth buying a monthly pass as an after-hours employee? Can you use SEPTA keycard on regional rail? Metered parking? Where will the PATCO train stop? Will I be able to walk above and underground to the new building? How frequently are the train schedules updated? Can monthly SEPTA passes can be used cross line (zones)?
- For all public transit questions, please refer to the SEPTA and PATCO websites. Each has a “plan your trip” section that can help you map out your public transit commute.
Q. Will the tunnel to the new building from Suburban Station be open when we move in?
- The tunnel between Suburban Station and the existing Comcast Center is open. The new tunnel that will extend all the way to our building, the Comcast Technology Center, is scheduled to open at the end of October. Until then, you will need to come into the building through the exterior doors on 18th Street.
WageWorks
Q. What is WageWorks and how will it help me with the cost of my commute?

Parking
Q. The closest parking garage to the new building is $380 per month. People want to know if the company is negotiating any discounted rates on behalf of NBC/Telemundo 62 and when will that take place?
- Currently, Comcast does not negotiate parking rates with the city. There are several parking locations that may have special rates for Comcast employees.
Q. Can we get a list of parking garages that are around the building? Do the same benefits apply to contract employees?
- For current parking garage options, visit the Philadelphia Parking Authority (PPA) or see below for an updated chart of some options.
Q. We still have a lot of questions about parking for sales. They are required to have a vehicle as part of their job description.
- Currently, there is no designated employee parking. We continue to encourage employees to locate parking or means of transportation that fit their needs and demand.
Q. Will there be off-hours parking rates near Center City for talent, tech, and production and news writers?
- Many garages have greatly reduced rates during off peak hours. Please ensure you reach out to the parking areas to understand the cost. Also, enroll in WageWorks benefits to help with commute cost.
Q. There is a huge difference between $86 a month for a TransPass and $300 a month for parking. With the overnight hours public transportation is scarcely available and the only other apparent option would be to get a spot in a local garage.
- For overnight parking, parking rates are much less than peak hours. Please ensure you reach out to the parking areas to understand the cost. And remember to use WageWorks!

Q. How will the move benefit NBC10/Telemundo62?

- All food requests can be accommodated through Flik, the building’s food service operator. Flik has a variety of options that we are confident they will be able to serve our needs. We are working with Comcast on the after-hours accommodation.
Q. How will printing be different in CTC? We understand that when you print something, you must walk to printer, swipe your badge, then your document will print and documents default to two-sided prints. What about presentations that require a specific format?
- You can change printer preferences, if necessary. We encourage everyone to think differently when doing their job and how we can be more efficient and effective by using technology to capture the attention of their clients and audience.

- There is no existing daycare in the Comcast Center and there will not be one in CTC. You can see our benefits here: myBenefits.
Safety
Q. I was told that coming into work in the middle of the night would be significantly more dangerous in Center City vs Bala Cynwyd. Is this true?
- We are committed to protecting the safety of employees. We are working with our safety team both in Comcast and NBCUniversal to address any concerns, as you heard at a recent station meeting.
Q. I have safety concerns about walking to and from public transportation. For a day shift employee walking from 15th and Market (nearest overnight bus stop) may not be a big deal, but at 2 a.m. that is a different issue.
- As you heard from the Comcast and NBCUniversal safety team at our recent safety meeting, the safety of all our employees is our top priority. We encourage you to discuss these concerns with your manager, who can help connect you with security resources.
Technology
Q. One of my team members asked if there will be TVs around our desk to watch NBC10/T62? In the traffic department we need to be able to see the TV to confirm correct commercials are airing, and to see when Special Reports break in, etc.
- There will be television screens throughout our space that will allow employees to view our coverage throughout the day. Every desk has access to the IPTV system on their PC/Laptop to view any time. Separate TVs will not be provided. Each desk has a 34” ultra-wide monitor providing plenty of screen to have your applications, TV, Jabber and more up at the same time.
Q. Will training be provided?
- Training will be provided through user journeys over a span of 90 days for each business unit.
Q. Will files still be in place?
- Your data files will transfer to the new building. However, there will be less space for paper files in the new space.
